Big Baby Robin Headache

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

My husband wrote this story about this baby robin we heard hit the front window this morning. I wasn't about to kill it, like he suggested, I assumed it had really knocked it's wind out and was gasping for air. And believe me I know that feeling.

Here is Abe's story:
Brookville, Ohio
My wife, Patty, and I were sitting in my office at the opposite end of our home and we heard a tremendous "thud" sound that we assumed meant something fell somewhere in our house. I got up and walked all the way through the house and didn't see anything out of place. So I looked out of our bow window and saw this young robin gasping for air, tail stuck straight out, laying on the sidewalk about 5 feet from the window. So I assume it was flying fast and hit the glass and bounced off and landed on the sidewalk. I assumed a broken neck, wings and legs or ribs or something bad. I told Patty she would have to dispose of it as I could not bring myself to kill the baby robin to end its suffering. Instead, Patty picked it up and talked to it and held it and I snapped this photo and another of it laying in the grass outside the office window. In less than 15 minutes when I looked again, the baby robin had regained consciousness and flown away. I think it had really knocked itself out. I am also glad she didn't kill it like I had suggested—to end its misery. Now, at least, in a day or two it should be back to normal or may be there now.

Like I said, I am glad it is OK. I thought it was really broken up and would die but it turned out to be something less and for that I am most grateful.

I'm glad it's okay, and I'm really glad you guys didn't kill it. I'm sure it had the wind knocked out of him.

I wasn't about to kill the little fella, I could see he/she was gasping, so I assumed it was stunned and probably was trying hard to get it's breathe. I held it,gently talked to it and we checked each wing to make sure they weren't broken, then I gently set him down in the grass, he wasn't setting too good at first, he was falling forward, but he finally got his wind back and his bearings and took off.
