We must never forget

USS New York

It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center .

It is the fifth in a new class of warship - designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite , LA to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept 9, 2003, 'those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,'recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. 'It was a spiritual moment for everybody there.'

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and 'the hair on my neck stood up. It had a big meaning to it for all of us. They knocked us down. They can't keep us down. We're going to be back.'
The ship's motto?
'Never Forget'

A friend send me this in an e-mail, but for some reason the pictures didn't come through. So now I get to see the pictures as well.

What a tragic day that was 7 years ago...

It is something nobody can ever forget, nor should we. All those innocent lives snuffed out because a madman wants to rule the world.

9/11 definitely shocked the USA and shook the world! It was just unfathomable. What I think of is how much that one event scared everyone and we haven't really seen anything yet. Jesus said at Matthew 24:21,22 that there is going to be a "great tribulation" that has not occured yet, nor will occur again and if those days were not cut short no flesh would survive! It makes you stop and think especially after 9/11!

Thank you for this. I had forgotten that the ship had been built from the steel.
I have posted a tribute too. You can also check out my archives of 9-11 2006 to rea about our friend and the World Trade Center.

I didn't know about the steel either. Thank you for the information, Patty.

Very sad day, hearing the names of the lost again, seeing the grieving faces of those who lost their loved ones-no, we will never forget.

This was news to me. I don't believe I had ever heard that a ship was made from the steel of the Trade Centers.

It's a beautiful picture, and I love the motto...Today was a day of remembrance. We will never forget.

Patty your advice was good, I really did way too much for one day..got started and couldn't stop.
Tomorrow ~~ will slow down.

Dear Patty ~~ Lovely motto on the ship made from the steel from that terrible
tragedy. I did know about it being built, but do not remember hearing the motto. A day none of us will ever forget.
Thank you for your comments and glad you enjoyed the jokes. I hope you are keeping well and getting some restful sleep. Love, Merle.

Never Forget...no we won't. It's like when Kennedy was shot. Those of us who are old enough to remember, remember where we were when it happened. I was a toddler and remember well.

On 9-11, we were on our way to Charleston, SC for my hubby's follow-up appt with his surgeon. We were so shocked. In the mid 90s, we were in Manhattan and was in the Trade Center. I have a photo of Steve standing at a window looking out. It's a strange feeling looking at it now.

Hugs,
Diane

Good post. Steel from the twin towers used for the ship. Steel made for the twin towers---some of it came from Atlas Works which is about 3 miles from Haymarket, VA.
