I'm sorry

I didn't get around to read blogs today

Yesterday I spent half a day on the phone trying to get Abe's new prescription filled. This is one we got back on Dec. 2nd. the first time he was sent home from the hospital. We did get the nebulizer, no problem, but trying to get the medicine that goes into it has been a nightmare.

When he came home again, Dec. 19th. I took the prescription to the pharmacy again, and was told, this is the same one we've been trying to get to go through. I asked if I could buy one box, at $95.40 a box of 24, the prescription was written for five boxes, because this is something he can use very four hours if needed. I thought one box would last him until after the holidays.

Everyday I would check with the pharmacy, no luck. Finally I decided to start calling, this I started yesterday. This morning still nothing, even with the woman at the pharmacy working on it. Finally she decided apparently they aren't one on our list. Then we tried Rite Aid and was told the same thing. Today I started calling Medicare, Aetna/Medicare, Express Scripts. Found out it is suppose to be run thought Aetna/Medicare but listed as Medicare Advantage, but it has to be preapproved. Which it had been once, but with Express Scripts.

Another call to the doctor, and they were suppose to call a number I had called earlier today. I told the doctor's assistant it's enough to make an old person give up. You end up either really mad, or almost in tears because you feel like you're getting the run around. She said that's what's so sad, some of the older people do give up and they end up not taking or having the medicines they need. Now how sad is that.

Finally by 2:00pm I was done calling, did call the doctor's office back, since my first call was never returned. Got that done by 3:00, then it was almost time to met Granddaughter at the bus stop. Did make up several dozen cookies from frozen cookie dough, they sure hit the spot, warm out of the oven. Had also cooked up some potatoes to make potato salad to go with the chicken tenders I fixed for super. I feel more tired tonight then if I had worked really, really hard or mowed the lawn. Phone calling and being put on hold, and waiting for what seems like forever, tires a person out.

Hope every one sleeps well tonight. I'm sure I will. LOL

Oh my dear Patty! No need to apologize! What you've been doing is much more important. Stories like this are an example of the reason we need drastic changes in our medical system.

Hi Patty. I, for one, strongly believe that Medicare and other insurance companies make you do all these things in hopes that you just get so aggrivated that you give up on it and do without. I believe that Medicare should have to cover EVERYTHING 100%. The doctor isn't prescribing it just for something to do. If it's ordered by a doctor, they should be completely responsible for the coverage. PERIOD!!! Medicare is controlled by the government, so naturally, they like to make things difficult.
Okay, I'm done venting! LOL
Take care and have a great rest of the week.

Oh that's an awful story. can't believe it's so difficult and expensive too.

We do tend to take things for granted here, just take the prescription and get the stuff automatically. Free if you're over 60! When my husband was in hospital the hospital pharmacy give him his first prescription medicine. Couldn't they have done that or found you an alternative?

I've never heard of having to get the medicine yourself. What if Abe didn't have you to do this for him? Maybe complain to your senator, if that's the right person. I'd complain to my local Member of Parliament if that happened. They can usually do something fast and people jump for them. I once had a problem with getting my passport and I was amazed at how quickly it was resolved. Worth a try as it might be happening to other people or it might happen to you and Abe again.

Hope you enjoyed your supper and time with your granddaughter.

I used to have to keep up with that stuff for my parents.
It's maddening!

It is really sad the run-around we senior citizens get. I had a friend ask someone, she was trying to deal with, if we don't get the attention we need, because we are old and they are waiting for us to die. She said in a round about way, they were telling her yes. She got her temper up then!

This is inexcusable. I sure hope you get Abe's meds for him. What a sad world our medicalcare is in...
