Tried to find on SNOPES but couldn't find it.

Onions fight flu virus

Forget the spicy candles and herbs to freshen the smell in your house! Try onions!

OK, it is true. After reading this you will think that I have really lost it. However, this is a true story, supposedly...

This sounds a bit weird, but I'm gona' try it; what can I lose? My immune system isn't working up to par, so maybe this will help, I don't know! But it doesn't cost much and unpeeled, shouldn't create too much odor. I will know if it works or not in short time!

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu. Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.

The Doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the Doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now this story from a hairdresser...... She said that several years ago many of her employees were coming down with the flu and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work. (And no, she is not in the onion business.)

The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls around your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office or under your desk or even on top somewhere. Try it and see what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu.

If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick, all the better. If you do get the flu, it just might be a mild case.

Whatever, what have you to lose? Just a few bucks on Onions !!!!

Well someone sent me word, that SNOPES did have something published and it is false, although their version said to peel the onion, I believe this version says unpeeled. So guess it's up to each person if you want to try it. Although if I try it, the peeling stays on. At least it isn't to be worn around the neck, like I believe they use to wear garlic to ward off vampires or something like that. LOL Happy Friday!

That is quiet weird... but all the same it is more then worth the try if the flu could be kept at bay.

Maybe I should tie one around my neck when I go shopping. That might be hard to explain though. At least it would keep sickies away from that crazy lady with an onion around her neck.
Worth a try in a dish though. Can't hurt.

I hope people do not put too much stock in this as it might not work.

My onions hang in the kitchen in one of those wire baskets. Maybe, that is why I have never had the flu...LOL... I do plan to get my flu shot this year. I never had one before, but, thought maybe I better start this year. I'm not getting any younger.

A very interesting post. When we were kids and I did this with my own kids, peel an onion, place it in a glass and add sugar, turn the glass upside down in a bowl, the juice will flow out under the glass and you use the juice to give a spoonful for colds and coughs, and flu, it worked because we never had colds or flu when kids. We also had to take in the winter a spoon of cod liver oil.

It would not surprise me if this works. I think for every disease/illness, there is a simple cure. We just have to find it.

You mean the garlic necklace I've been wearing WON'T protect me from vampires. Darn!

Having just been sick during the best part of the summer, I'm willing to try it. Might be hard to explain at work, but I could always tell them I'm growing a plant or something.

I'm still going to keep my little bottle of Purell in my pocket, though ;)
