Bear Warning

Due to the frequency of human-bear encounters, the Fish and
Wildlife Department is advising hikers, hunters, fishermen, and
any persons that use the out of doors in a recreational or work
related function to take extra precautions while in the field.

We advise the outdoorsman to wear little noisy bells on
clothing so as to give advanced warning to any bears that might
be close by so you don't take them by surprise.

We also advise anyone using the out of doors to carry "Pepper
Spray" with them in case of an encounter with a bear.

Outdoorsmen should also be on the watch for fresh bear
activity, and be able to tell the difference between black bear
feces and grizzly bear feces. Black bear feces are smaller and
contains berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear feces have
bells in it and smell like pepper.

Additionally, if you find yourself being pursued by a bear, you
must be able to identify the bear to determine how much danger
you are in.

To do this, we suggest you climb a tree. If the bear chases you
up the tree, it's a black bear.

If the bear knocks the tree down, it's a grizzly bear.

Aw gee, think I will just wait till they are hibernating to take a walk in the woods. Too funny.

Here in Romania we have problems with bears as well. But people don't understand the danger and they try to feed them. They get really close to a bear. Some are lucky, but some have lost their lives after this kind of imprudence.

LOL. I love this. In Montana they tell you that the way to tell if it's bear scat is if it contains a container of bear repellant;)

We do have black bear in my area, but they prefer to stay away from humans, thank goodness. I don't go too far into the woods anymore, like I used to, and prefer to stay away from bears, too! Now if we had grizzlies around here, I would never go out of my house!

Have a nice evening.

We have black bears amble through our small town. One was seen in a yard about 4 blocks from me. If a Grizzly knocks on my door I won't answer, but doubt we have any of them.

I love the Christmas poem in your post before this one.

I think the bears should wear bells!

great story, Patty. My son is often on hiking trails for several days at a time. He has some interesting bear tales. My husband's corny joke is,"It's a terrible thing to be caught in the woods with a bare behind!"
For some reason I lost you off my blog list and so haven't been visiting. I have now replaced you.

So far there is no bear activity in my back yard!!
Thanks for your visit, yes the photo is the livingroom and part of the kitchen. I have parquet in the livingroom and tiles in the kitchen. I don't know who embroidered the bell rope. I didn't, for I don't like needlework.

EGAD. We do have black and brown bears rumble through various public places here in Oregon.

When we lived in Washington State on the Olympic Peninsula we had a lot more problems with the black bears.

They liked to get into the garbage, and occasionally would raid a house for food.

I love the "bells in the feces" part of this story! I surely wouldn't want to meet a bear, of any sort. I think I shall stick to walks around the block, and not in the woods!

Very funny.
