THE YEAR IS 1911

This will boggle your mind, I know it did mine!

Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.

A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year,

More than 95 percent of all births took place at home .
Ninety percent of all Doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press AND the government as "substandard."
Sugar cost four cents a pound.
Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.

( Shocking? )

Things sure have changed in the last 100 years. Some for the better, some not. I've always thought I would like the slower lifestyle of days gone by, but not sure I would like going to visit one of those doctors, although there are some still out there I'm not too sure about...like those physician assistants. Enjoyable reading!

This list is a great one and to think I lived a few of them, especially the bathtub, and we had no phone. Thanks for sharing these.
