First Day of Summer what better song then this?

Summertime by George Gershwin

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

One of these mornings
You're going to rise up singing
Then you'll spread your wings
And you'll take to the sky

But till that morning
There's a'nothing can harm you
With daddy and mamma standing by

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

I love Michael Bolton's rendition of this song. I just now put his "Vintage" CD in my player, after you reminded me of this song. That way I can listen to him sing it over and over;)

Enjoy your week-end.

Those twin pops are the definition of summer! I remember those, so fun to eat when I was a kid.

You have a great weekend too Patty, hope it's not as hot there as it is here!

I love this song ~~ and yesterday I was looking through a magazine that said make ice pops from the juice in canned fruit ~~ lots of sugar, but I bet they taste good.

We are having record heat 104 -109 all week ....I'm ready for that twin pop!!!

Thanks for the comment today. Hope your granddaughter is getting along ok now. Is she in the reguler service? This was Bryan's second tour with the VA Guard in Iraq. In 2004 he was in Mosul. This time he was in Baghdad.

I guess today is summer time or the longest day or something. I remember the song though I never heard anybody singing it.

Love the song. Haven't had a popsicle like the one pictured in years. Maybe this summer. ;-)

Great old song!

The weather actually has been beautiful, but July is almost here, and that is usually firecracker hot!

Night, Patty.

Dear Patty ~~ Great old song -
"Summertime" - I know it well and I hope you are having great weather,
warm but not too hot. It is trying to rain here, but it's very light at present. And it is cold, heater on.I loved your Grandma jokes last post.
Thanks for the comments on my Apron post, it was a nice story and I doubt if too many young Moms have any or wear them. I don't wear mine any more. Take care, dear Patty and sleep well. Love, Merle.

Happy First day of summer:)
Trivia: who invented the popscicle?
according to wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popsicle

The first recorded Popsicle was created in 1905 by 11-year-old Frank Epperson, who had left a glass of soda water powder and water, which was a popular drink in those days, on a windowsill outside with a glass mixing stick in it. That night, the temperature
plummeted, and when Frank returned to the drink the next morning, he found that the soda water had frozen inside the glass, and that by running it under hot water, he was able to remove (and eat) the frozen soda water chunk using the stir stick as a handle.

I love the sugar free pops. They package them as doubles but they are singles and are not attached as in the past. I remember using the edge of my mother's table or counter to split it in half so I could share with my brother.
Memories
BTW, my favorite is grape
Also I use to play on the old
black vinyl 78 record the opera Porgy and Bess "Summertime", a popular song by George Gershwin.
