Why not sit them on something that the wax won't hurt, then use it like a pin cushion, to hold pins, needles, open safety pins. Stick the item into the candle stub. Makes a nice little holder, plus your needles, pins and etc. will slide into the material a lot easier.

This works the same way we used to run the safety pen through our hair to make it go through the cloth diaper. (remember cloth diapers..... I do)
I Patty Jane loves her candle and we nornally have some burning each night.. wehave to big church candles on top of the fire place and thats exactly where I keep my favourite needing. 3 for sewing and one for darning. I have two more darning needles that I use for sowing up my knitting.. ha!
