Dear Patty ~~ What strange ads and they sure wouldn't work these days. Thank you for your kind words about Jane who was buried today from the church she was married in 9 years ago. She got breast cancer at age 31 then she and Glenn got married and had 2 kids, 8 and 6 now, then she got bone cancer and finally brain cancer. They were so brave, she was never without a smile. but dead at 42.Sad.Take care Patty and sleep well. Love, Merle.
My Mother use to say: "Don't believe everything you read or hear." What wise advice. I guess that is why today I pay no mind to the advertising all around me. When the commercials come on TV today, I hit the mute button or change channels.
I remember some of them, but not all. I always enjoy these old nostalgic things.
The Lysol one was funny. Who knew that's all it takes to hold a marriage together;)
Oh, my word! LOL Many, I remember; some I'd never seen before. All relics of our past. All things considered, though, printed ads are preferable to those that blare at us from the TV. Turning the page is easier than hitting the mute button!
Wow, those are mindboggling now. I do remember some of them and thought they were ok. How times have changed. Santa selling cigarettes...wouldn't fly now.
OMG! Where ever did you find these old ads? The one advertising the doctors smoking Camel reminds me of when I was in the hospital delivering my first son. He is now 26. The doctor was standing in the door of the labor room smoking a cigarette in the hospital!
Patty, Found your blog and love it! These ads are hilarious. It's funny to look at things from the past such as these. My hubby and I love to watch old B&W movies...absolutely everyone smoked...constantly!!
I invite you to visit my blog!
Hugs and congratulations on being a cancer survivor!
Thanks for your visit to my blog Brookville Daily Photo this morning. I hope you enjoyed my post today showing the baby rabbit eating the hibiscus flower.
I am now taking a diminishing dose of steroids for my Rheumatoid Arthritis pain and it works. I am pain free. I believe the chemotherapy drug is spelled "Methotrexate" that is used to treat a lot of things from cancer to arthritis and it has side effects that are troubling. So I need to talk to my doctor about it before I take it. Just missing a dose can be a real nightmare.
Anyway, I wanted you to know I stopped-in to repay your visit and comment with mine.
I enjoyed reading your blog post for today about the old ads and you and I have seen them all in our time and when we saw them we didn't think anything about them. But now a doctor on a smoking ad would be the end of his career. Imagine how things have changed in our 53 years of marriage. A really nice post, Patty.
You might want to tell Becky and the girls who all buy books.
I just got my first shipment of used books from Strand's bookstore in New York City, yesterday. They have 18 miles of used books. Think about that. Anyway, they got here and I am totally happy with those I chose to read. I had to start out by just choosing a category, like photography, and go from there. I don't know how in the world they can keep track of so many books.
Look up Strand bookstore or copy and paste the URL here: http://www.strandbooks.com/app/www/p/home/
The ads are too funny! I remember some of them, but not all. Who would believe them today? Of course, I don't believe todays ads either!
Tell Abe I thank him for his advice on the bees. Actually,I removed the feeders with the nectar this morning, and I think the bees finally gave up finding more and seem to have left. I will have to stop putting nectar out for the rest of the summer, as much as I hate to. I wouldn't want to hurt the bees, I know how important they are. But I am still puzzled over where they came from, and how they happened to find my hummingbird feeders this summer. Just a bit strange, I think.
Thank you for your kind words on my blog. I always look forward to your visits. Have a good night!
I found your blog from someone else's, so this is my first visit. The ads are hilarious! I never heard about Lysol for douching! Funny, funny! These were really great!!!
I am new to blogging just since January, and I am loving it!!! Guess you could say I am hooked! LOL
Really enjoy visiting your blog, PATTY:) Those ads are funny to think that people believed them back then. I used to see my grandfather smoking Camels.

Oh my, those are awesome to see. They had mighty clever design skills back then! :)
I'm about 20 years younger than you (born in '55) and I remember a good deal of these as well.
Most memorable? The television commercial for Pall Mall: Over! Under! Around and Through! Pall Mall travels natural flavor to you!
Just think...after all these 40 plus years I still remember that as if it were yesterday! Guess that means their marketing team were crack-shots!

PS. And Merle's post is so sad!
Just what I needed at the end of the day! I knew I'd end up smiling if I visited your blog :)
These are very, very cool.
I look at old magasines sometimes and usually end up laughing at the ads. Great post !!
Merle, sorry for your loss.
