Rex Barker here asking you,

"What Is the Definition Of Beauty?"

A beauty products company ran a contest and asked the people in a large city to send pictures along with brief letters about the most beautiful women they knew. With in a few weeks thousands of letters were delivered to the company.

One letter in particular caught the attention of the employees and soon it was handed to the company president. The letter was written by a young boy who obviously was from a broken home, living in a run-down neighborhood. With spelling corrections, an excerpt from his letter read: "A beautiful woman lives down the street from me. I visit her every day. She makes me feel like the most important kid in the world. We play checkers and she listens to my problems. She understands me and when I leave she always yells out the door that she's proud of me." The boy ended his letter saying, "This picture shows you that she is the most beautiful woman. I hope I have a wife as pretty as her."

Intrigued by the letter, the president asked to see this woman's picture. His secretary handed him a photograph of a smiling, toothless woman, well-advanced in years, sitting in a wheelchair. Sparse gray hair was pulled back in a bun and wrinkles that formed deep furrows on her face were somehow diminished by the twinkle in her eyes.

"We can't use this woman," explained the president, smiling. "She would show the world that our products aren't necessary to be beautiful."

Reminding you to look for the inner beauty in people. External beauty fades over time, but internal beauty is actually enhanced with age.

Well, that president is like all presidents. If a man and woman have a beautiful yard but don't use Scotts lawn products, Scott's president wouldn's use the man and woman's yard photo in advertising. It is a shame that our "ideal" person gets all the attention.

So true, My dad used to say to me when I bemoaned the fact I wasn't as pretty as my friends that " the best presents can come in brown paper parcels".
I remind myself often.

What a great story!
Loved your comment on my hairdresser problem, guess we all have stories to tell. Just really upsets me when they think they know more about what I want than I do. I think they need a plague that says "If I don't cut customers hair the way they ask me to,,,,someone else will"

What a great story. It would be good for the young people to understand this, and maybe the old men who like a barbie doll on their arm. Who do they think they are fooling? Haha...

This is a great post Patty. To me beauty isn't what you get from places like Hollywood where the wrong message is sent out to millions of young people who strive to achieve the unobtainable and become totally disillusioned with themselves. Beauty to me is not on the outside but on the inside. To this young boy that lady was the most beautiful woman in the world. How true!

She reminds me of my beautiful neighbor Elizabeth, the bird lady.

What a sweet and lovely story! Beauty, as seen by most, is indeed, only skin deep.

What a sweet story. And so true. Unfortunately, too many place too much value on outer beauty. The kind that fades. Inner beauty never fades.

Have a good night, Patty.

Awesome story! Puts things into perspective when the whole world around you is running to achieve that IMAGE of the advertisement!

What a great story! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say....and it is that inner beauty that really counts in the end!
