A lot of truth in this poem

The Most Powerful Book in America

They lie on the table side by side
The Holy Bible and the TV guide.
One is well worn and cherished with pride.
Not the Bible, but the TV guide.

One is used daily to help folks decide.
No, not the Bible, but the TV guide.
As the pages are turned, what shall they see.
Oh, what does it matter, turn on the TV.

Then confusion reigns, they can't all agree
On what they should watch on the old TV.
So they open the book in which they confide,
No, not the Bible, but the TV guide.

The Word of God is seldom read,
Maybe a verse as they fall into bed.
Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be;
Not from reading the Bible, from watching TV.

So then back to the table side by side,
Lie the Holy Bible and the TV guide.
No time for prayer, no time for the Word,
The plan of Salvation is seldom heard.

But forgiveness of sin, so full and free,
Is found in the Bible, not on TV.
Choose which book will rule your family.

~The author is unfortunately "unknown" and the TV Guide is now
The Cable Guide and you get to it by pressing the "guide" button~

There is a lot of truth in that. Those are seldom seen or opened in most homes. Including our own. But then we no longer have the TV Guide and remember when we got it with the groceries every week. The idea of God on television sounds good but the Bakkers, Swagerts and others who came on television talking about God, soon doomed tv as a worthy substitute for the Bible.

Thanks for sharing that poem. Fortunately I don't fall into that crowd of folks, but still I should devote more time to the Bible.
So many people miss life becauase they didn't want to miss their favorite TV program.

You know...that's truly sad--what you're saying is a reality in our world.

I've read a proverb a day for years. And the Psalms are always a comfort. I was raised memorizing verses from the Bible.

Television, computers, ipods, blackberries have seemingly taken over our world. Strange days these days.

And I'm with you Abe--those television folks with their gaudy gold chairs ranting and trading miracles for monies, just don't cut it. (sigh)

It is better to live life, rather than watch it being lived by others on the big screen...

I agree with Abraham Lincoln. I cannot believe how many channels have "television preachers" on them! It is a sad commentary on today's world.

This is so true, makes one feel so sad inside. Thanks to you and other bloggers that give us a wake up call every once in a while to read Gods word. Thank you for coming by.

Yes, there is a lot of truth in that. I don't use TV Guide though, I just flip the channels, and the Bible is available online. God makes it easier for us to follow his Word!

Have a good night, Patty!
