85th. CUSTER REUNION

I plan on leaving this post up for a week, just in case any Custer we haven't met yet, reads it.

What: Custer Reunion
When: June 6, 2010
Where: Ivester Park, Arcanum Ohio
Time 12:30 till ??

We will be holding our 85th. Custer Reunion, in the large, white, enclosed shelter. Please bring a well filled picnic basket, your own tablecloth and table service and your own drinks. After lunch some like to sit around and reminisce, a few play Euchre and the favorite of the kids and some adults is Bingo. If you wish to take part in the Bingo, please bring a wrapped, white elephant for a prize.

Since we no longer read the minutes or hold a meeting, I am including the minutes from the last reunion with this post.

84th. Custer Reunion
Was held June 7th. 2009 at Ivester Park, in Arcanum Ohio. We had a perfect day, wasn’t too hot or humid. Was overcast almost all afternoon. Bill Alexander gave a very nice prayer before dinner.

As usual, we had way too much food and it was delicious as always. We had KFC, Lees and some place in West Manchester called Crick’s, chicken. Potato salads, Shoe Peg Corn salad, Fruit salads, pickled beets and eggs, a Mexican chicken casserole, Sloppy Joes, a Mexican dip and chips, home baked bread and loads of desserts. Sugar cream pies, two Angel food cakes, Magic squares, brownies, Orange gelatin dessert, Chocolate brownie pudding dessert, fresh fruit with dip, or you could put the one dish of fresh fruit over a piece of Angel food cake, and there were some Turtle bars. Needless to see there was plenty of good food. A lot of good cooks in the family.

Those present in order of first names:
Angela Dasner (Who just got her driver’s licenses this year) FANTASTIC!! Angela is, Patty (Custer) Lincoln's daughter
Becky Lincoln & Margaret Correale - Becky, Patty (Custer) Lincoln's daughter
Bill & Jerri Alexander - Bill is Steve's Father
Debbie & Ben Williams - Debbie, is Nancy (Custer) Balsbaugh's daughter
Heather, Wesley, Wesley Jr. and Elliott Wackler - Heather is Harold Custer Jr's (better known as Sonny) daughter
Mae Custer - Harold Custer Sr. wife
Melissa & Audrey Gilliland - Melissa is Patty (Custer) Lincoln's daughter
Patty & Abe Lincoln - Patty Custer daughter of Harold Sr.
Sonny & Eva Custer - Sonny son of Harold Custer Sr.
Steve & Renda Alexander - Steve son of Dorothy (Custer) Alexander

We did not take up a collection, we still had $47.92 left from 2008. We decided we will rent the cabin at least one more time and see how many show up for 2010. The check for $35.00 was dropped off to hold the cabin for next year, which will be June 6, 2010. That leaves us with a balance of $12.92, so if we decide to hold it again in 2011, we will need to take up a collection on the 6th of June, 2010.

We didn’t get a group photo before the people started leaving, but different ones took some snapshots . Steve missed playing cards, his card buddies (Beverly, Tim, Kimberly and Roger) weren’t able to attend this year. They did play a couple of games of Bingo, mostly for the kids.

We also had a death in the family in 2008, Michael Custer, Jr. died as a result of a vehicle accident on Oct. 18th. 2008.

Marilyn wasn’t able to attend the reunion, due to the fact she was going through some pretty strong treatments and wasn’t feeling too well. She’s been having radiation treatments and chemo for a spot of cancer along her one lung and also on her brain.

A note was sent to Dwaine, Bill, Heather, Rita, Michael & Matthew, since I don’t have an e-mail address for them. For 2010, I will be sending out e-mails to remind them of the upcoming reunion and the few others I will send a note. For the ones that were able to attend and the ones that couldn’t, hope you all have a terrific and healthy summer and hope to see you in 2010.

Update: We lost two family members in 2009
Bill Alexander passed away on July 4, 2009
Marilyn Custer passed away on July 24, 2009

Great news: New addition to the family, Scott Borger’s daughter Valan and her husband Sean, had a baby girl on May 6, 2009, weighing in at 8 lbs. 14 ozs. & 21” long. They named her Abigail Marceline McKinney.

ALMOST FORGOT TO MENTION THIS:
If anyone is related to Polly & David Custer or their children who were:
Charles A. Custer
Rosa E. (Custer) Lam
L. Frank Custer
Harvey D. Custer (My Grandfather)
Emery E. Custer
Gertrude S. (Custer) Slade
We would love to see you. We've lost track of so many family members, plus some have died off and the younger ones no longer come to the reunion.

I hope it runs smooth too. And I hope it is a lot warmer than it has been or we will freeze and I won't be able to go as I can't breathe in cold weather.

Boy, 85 reunions is a lot. We use to have them but the younger kids don't want to bother. Hope all goes well and you have a nice time. See you when you return.
