It's really hard to believe we've been married 55 years today. We ran off to Indiana to get married. When we got engaged on April 1, 1955, Abe didn't think he would be back from Japan until at least December. But his Father passed away and the Red Cross got him home, after the funeral. He no longer had a place to stay, so he was staying with his best friend. We decided to go ahead and get married, since he wouldn't be coming home in December like we had planned. Well, my Father said no. So Abe, his best friend, Abe's Mom and I all went over to Richmond, Indiana. A girl could be 18 and sign for herself, a guy had to be 21, which Abe wasn't yet, so his Mother went along to sign for him. We were only going to get the blood test and apply for our license. But since we were there, we decided to go ahead and get married. Bought our wedding rings, got our blood test, applied for the license and got married by the justice of the peace all before supper/dinner time. Of course the court house was going to close before we could pick up the finished license, so the lady working in the office, gave us her home address and said she would take them to her house and we could pick them up from her. We did, and that's how we started our married life.
